You play with dolls

new girl in the works

''You play with dolls''- That is probably the number one statements a person can utter that will piss me off!-  I don't consider making dolls or artwork based on them playing!

The definition of playing is to engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose. There are aspects about making dolls that are fun, but overall for me, it's a lot of work!. Same goes for any of my paintings or mixed media pieces. People always assume that creating art is relaxing and carefree fun. Who knows maybe it is for some, but for me it's stressful and time consuming.
I usually have headaches afterwards. When I'm sitting in one spot for 8hrs a day staring at a computer screen trying to perfect one of my mixed media pieces, it isn't fun!

Headaches, neck cramps and eyestrain is a small part of making my art. There is also the heart and soul that is poured in only to be met mostly by rejection. I was rejected by three galleries last month and two the month before that- And countless others in the last year as well as years passed. What keeps me going on you may ask?. I think for me, it's if I'm going to spend my time doing something all day I'd rather it be something tangible that I love and feel good about. Something that at the end of the day makes me feel like I've accomplished something lasting!. And also there's the hope that almost every artist has in the back of their head that one day I will be discovered and be able to make a living off what I love doing.

I do feel blessed that I've been able to pursue art for the most part unencumbered from the daily stress of chasing the oh mighty dollar!~
I owe an enormous amount of gratitude to those to helped support me and my art all these years! But it's still work.

People only see one side to art most of the time. If you go on Instagram you mostly see all these artist looking pretty next to one of their pieces with a big smile. But that only one side. you aren't seeing the person who hasn't left the house in days. You aren't seeing the person who hasn't left the same spot in whatever room it is that they create their art because they've been too busy working!. You don't see the mess we are usually sitting in. Surrounded by all the tools and items we use to create, like carnage left behind after a kill. Most of the time you only see the finished product. Giving the illusion that we were merely sitting around having fun while working. Hopefully this gives you a small insight into the behind the scene of making art~
